The South Devon Hunt couldn’t take Hounds to the 2024 West of England Hound Show at Honiton on 1st August, but that didn’t stop Ronnie Wright from stealing the show in the Young Handlers’ Class, judged by Ms Felicita Busby MFH and Mr Patrick Martin Esq., and supported by the Countryside Alliance.
The team arrived at the Show to find Ronnie’s name still in the schedule, so having checked there were no rules against it, they borrowed a Hound from the Dartmoor Hunt and sent the pair into the ring only minutes later. Ronnie showed Watchman incredibly well considering they’d only just met, and also entertained the crowd with a hilarious interview.
Ronnie helps at Kennels every day during the school holidays, and will be mounted for the first time this season, trail hunting on Buzz the Dartmoor Pony.
Congratulations to Harry Dalton and the Dart Vale, South Pool and Modbury Harriers on their well-deserved win. All the Young Handlers did themselves proud, and were a credit to their hunts, hound sports, and our local rural community. It’s for them that we must carry on!
