We are delighted to welcome Liam Hickman to the South Devon Hunt team. We congratulate him on the recent completion of his GCSEs and look forward to working with him this season.
Originating from North Devon, Liam has long loved hunting and all things connected with it, and as well as the South Devon, has also undergone work experience at the South Shropshire Hunt and Minehead Harriers. He has great aspirations for a long and full career in hunting, is looking forward to the challenges ahead, and to meeting everyone in due course.
Liam started his British Hound Sports Association Apprenticeship with us yesterday. The Hunt Service Apprenticeship Scheme provides work-based training placements for young people who aspire to a career in professional hunt service. As well as employment, education, training and a foothold in professional hunt service, Apprentices also gain a level two qualification in animal care and welfare. Impressively, Liam is one of just five young people to secure an apprenticeship with a foxhound pack this season, which is also testament to the BHSA’s high regard for Mr Joe Emmett MFH as his training supervisor and mentor.
Liam’s work in Kennels will afford our Master Huntsman the time he requires to properly manage the Country and organise hunting. As well as the Hounds, Liam will also help care for the full compliment of Hunt horses that are to be stabled at Kennels this season, and contribute to the continued provision to Farmers of our vital Fallen Stock Service. Finally, Liam will also whip in on hunting days, keeping our Hounds safe and enhancing the sport we are able to show. We are very pleased to have Liam join us and wish him the best of luck for the season ahead.
