The South Devon Hunt observed the ancient custom of the Blessing of Hounds at its meet on Saturday 28th December 2024 at Cator Gate near Widecombe-in-the-Moor.
“Almighty God, we thank you for this day and we pray you bless the Hounds of the South Devon Hunt that bring so much joy and pleasure: creatures of your creation that you have given us to care for, to encourage and to enjoy. May their run be swift, their scent be keen, and may they bring glory to you. We bless the Hounds of the South Devon Hunt in the name of the Almighty God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.”
“And Father, we ask for your blessing too on the wider community of the South Devon. Almighty Father, we ask you to bless the horses: give them sure and steady foot to carry their riders safely. Bless the landowners and their families, by whose generosity we are here today. Bless their land, that it may be fruitful; and their livestock, that they may thrive. We pray for all who take part in this Hunt: that we may learn through human kindness and concern for others, the experience of your pleasure. We ask all this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reins, one God, now and forever. Amen.”
